Parent & Community Involvement

Murals and children

We welcome all parents and community members to connect with our school by attending a variety of events throughout the year.

Family Fridays are held each month, with parents invited to ;attend a brief informational presentation given by our principal, and then to ;read with their child in the classroom.

Carson leadership and staff encourage parents to participate in such leadership opportunities at the school as the School Site Council (SSC), the Carson Parent Organization (CPO), and the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). Please contact the main office if you would like to attend a meeting, or join one of our committees. All are welcome.

Research shows that when parents are actively involved with their children's education, students' grades are higher, their self-esteem is greater, and they are more socially adjusted. In fact, the most accurate indicator of a student's academic success in school the extent to which a family:

  • Creates a home environment that encourages learning.

  • Sets high but realistic achievement and career expectations.

  • Becomes involved in their child's education and in the community.

In addition to attending parent-teacher conferences and other special events, opportunities to get involved at your child's school abound. A few examples include:

  • Tutoring

  • Mentoring

  • Classroom read alouds

  • Classroom assistance

  • Non-classroom assistance (field trips, media center, etc.)

  • Organization involvement (PTA, foundation, School Site Council, etc.)

  • Before-and after-school programs
